Changes in living conditions. We the elderly (VII final)

People get older, life go on
We all will get there…

Each Stage is different

Each stage of life and moment of transition brings with it changes in the support systems of individuals, in the roles assumed, in the positions developed before life, in the demands and responsibilities and, therefore, changes in living conditions and in the individual himself.

Years impose these changes on the individual in a radical way.

It means more vulnerability to stressful events and accentuates the importance of social support in maintaining health and reducing vulnerability to disease. It also has an impact on the experience of well-being and quality of life of the senescent.

Fortunately, many people reach advanced stages of life showing themselves to be active and dynamic and remain as providers of social support. Not being passive and dependent recipients, assuming the challenges and threats as opportunities.

In this respect, many older adults continue to carry out important tasks within the household dynamic, in charge of the care of grandchildren and join the Grandparents’ Circle, or the University of the Elderly.

Take care of Grandchildren could be a very important task
The happiness of family continuity…

Despite the change of roles in their existence, their attitude towards life remains active and constructive.

Of course this does not mean that this support is excessive, so that it nullifies or eliminates the potential of these people.

On the contrary, it should facilitate as much as possible their autonomy, even if they remain immersed in certain social networks.

Changes in living conditions. Tasks.

In some studies on the subject, reference is made to a group of tasks.

From the point of view of the senescent, they contribute to a positive experience in the old age:

Old age is one more stage of personal growth.

Defence of the personal and social autonomy of the senescent.

Acceptance of the limitations and changes that age implies.

The death theme elaboration.

These conceptions seek among their fundamental purposes the achievement of a positive vision of old age.

Quality of Life and Social Support play a determining role in facilitating the well-being and the personal satisfaction of the senescent.
